Choosing the right beer fountain for your bar, club or pub

If you own a bar, pub or club, you’ve probably spent many nights designing and planning the look of your venue. The walls, the seats, the lights all need to be considered and have a huge impact on the mood you create for your customers. But one area that often gets overlooked, because it’s considered a functional staff area, is the bar itself, where drinks and snacks are served.

Often thought not to be part of the place, the bar area is dismissed as incapable of contributing to the desired atmosphere, but this is not true. The bar is the hub, a place of activity and remember: people may stare at your bar for a while while they wait to be served. With this in mind, it is of great importance that you continue any design in this area that you have worked hard to implement elsewhere. But where do you start?

One of the main attributes of any bar are the beer fountains, or beer dispensers, as they are also known. These raised handles and spouts from which the beer is poured say a lot about the standard of your venue and go a long way to setting the tone for the rest of the serving area. Almost all beer fountains are chrome these days and the vast majority of them are also chilled to produce an ‘iced beer’, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a variety of designs to choose from.

The modern range of beer dispensers is as intricately and lovingly created as any piece of design-driven engineering, and there may be more options than you first thought. Popular designs include:

  • luxury palace
  • Bernini
  • gibson
  • rodin
  • Canova; and
  • high gate

Most of these offer the bar owner the ability to meet the functional (and rather essential) requirement of serving cold beer, while also offering a style statement. Choosing the right beer fountain for your venue will ensure that your bar area lives up to the lounge and continues to convey the message you sought to achieve through your design.

In fact, deciding on one in particular can be tricky as there are so many that seem to fit the bill, but consider where the focus of your bar, club or pub is. Do you want to create an elegant and luxurious feeling or are you looking for a simple and informal environment?

Get pictures of the designs you like and then just stand looking at your bar area. Imagine the pumps in place, do they fit? Imagine serving a cold pint of beer to a customer, are you proud of what the customer can see? Of course, only you know the right beer fountain for your venue, but I hope you now know more about the options you have and how to make the right choice.
