Pool table review

This pool table review is to help you choose a new table. I have written many articles on pool tables. You can check them all in the links on my blog.

I have owned several pool tables in the 25+ years that I have been playing. The first table I played at was a 4 x 8 table and it was given to my dad by someone he worked with. I was about 10 years old at the time.

When I turned 15, I would sneak out to the tavern across the street and play in their bar box. This was one of those old style bar tables with the big white ball. (I still don’t really like playing with the big white ball)

I moved out of my parents’ house at 18 and my cousin and I bought a 4 x 8 Brunswick table for the house we moved into. This table was played a lot and we went through a couple of rounds of new felt in a short amount of time.

Felt or fabric is actually one of the most important things about a table because it will be a major factor as to whether the table is played fast or slow. (I don’t recommend a cloth with a back. It slows down the ball a lot) My favorite pool cloth is the Simonis 860.

When I turned 21, a friend and I set up a small pool hall in a building that was owned by my family. We bought two tables of 4 and 1/2 by 9. One was a Circle G Gandy and the other was a Murray. Both tables played well and Murray played extremely fast off the rails. We also bought four 3 1/2 for 7 Valley bar tables.

I currently have one of the Valley 7ft tables in my house. I chose to stick with that one because most league games and at the time the National BCA Tournament in Las Vegas were played at a 7 Valley pool table.

The BCA and APA have now been changed to Diamond Smart Tables. These play well and the tavern that my team sponsors has 6 of them. (Diamond Jimfs) These are the only Diamond tables in Pueblo Colorado at the time of writing. The diamond table is definitely one of my favorites to play with and I’m keeping my eyes peeled for my home.

I must say that of all the tables I’ve played at in the past, my favorite would be a 9 Brunswick Gold Crown with fitted pockets and Simonis 860 fabric. You have to be pretty good on the move to run a shelf on one of these tables.

There are several articles about the pool table on my dot com website. There is even a page that shows what room size you need to comfortably play pool tables of various sizes. I hope this article gives you some things to consider when choosing your table.

For your success in exhaustion,

Ted
