Really Good Smoked BBQ – A Piggy’s Restaurant Review

Piggy’s Bar BQ serves up great smoked BBQ ribs. If you’re in the mood for some amazing smoky barbecue in the St. Louis area, and you’re driving on Interstate 70 in O’Fallon, Missouri, take the Highway K&M exit and head one block north to Piggy’s Bar BQ. You won’t regret it if you are a fan of authentic smoked barbecue. Here you will find smoked pork, brisket, chicken and, of course, spare ribs.

Piggy’s has all the charm of a typical steakhouse. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place. Glass storefronts with neon-lettered grill special prices let the grill aficionado know this is the real deal, not a “fine dining” experience.

The real indicator that you’ll get real wood-smoked meat at Piggy’s is the large smoker that cooks out front and the 8-foot-tall woodpile stacked right next to the smoker. Just driving by the location is enough to make your mouth water, and that alone brings numerous customers to the place.

The Smoked Pork Steak Combo Dinner can be had for around $9.00 and includes a decent size Smoked Pork Steak, a soft drink, and two sides, chosen from the following list:

  • Red skin potato salad
  • Cabbage salad
  • baked beans
  • macaroni and cheese
  • Green beans house special recipe
  • corn on the cob

The pork steak was smoked and so tender it could be cut with a fork. Adding the hot sauce really gave the meat a nice spicy kick. The potato salad and slaw were good, not spectacular. Face it, barbecue is about the meat, not the garnishes.

Other menu items include pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken, brats, and ribs. All meats are smoked in the large wood fired smoker out front. Piggy’s will serve their meats as sandwiches, combo meals, or meats by the pound. Try the Piggy’s sampler plate which includes 2 BBQ ribs, 2 choice of meats and 2 sides all for around $11.00

Like most barbecues, don’t expect fancy service either. Be prepared to order at the counter, get your own soda, and bring your tray to the table or booth of your choice, and start eating. Piggy’s serves their meat without sauce, with a choice of three Piggy’s own sauces on the tables. Piggy’s original sauces are Special Recipe, Hot and Saucy, and Kansas City Style. A nice touch to reassure the diner that they are at a real barbecue is the roll of paper towels placed at each table for the comfort of diners.

Piggy’s Bar BQ summer hours are Monday through Saturday 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, Sunday 11:00 am to 8:00 pm Piggy’s is located at 327 S. Main Street, O’Fallon, Missouri. Piggy’s has been voted Best Steakhouse in the NE Region by Rural MO Magazine, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Stop by and check it out and see for yourself how they stack up against other local steakhouses.
