Best Dual Pedal for Metal: Pearl Demon Drive Review

I decided to write a Pearl Demon Drive review after purchasing the pedal 9 months ago. Since I didn’t know much about Demon Drives before I bought them, I thought I’d write a short review to help drummers looking to upgrade their drum kit with a new duo pedal.

First of all, I would like to say that I am a metal drummer. I have played in various metal bands over the years with many different styles of playing. But the most important common element between all the metal bands I have played with is the use of double pedal. In particular, speed, power and feel are the most important elements in a double pedal for metal percussion. Finding the right balance between these three is critical and it took me going through numerous pedals before I found the right one. But I finally found it after YEARS of searching: the Pearl Demon Drive Double Pedal.

When I bought Demon Drives a few months ago, the gravity of my purchase didn’t hit me until a few weeks later. After plugging them into my kit I was very impressed with their smoothness and speed, but less so with their feel and power. They just seem to have enough juice to be the best double pedal for metal drums.

But when I went through the manual that came with the pedal, I noticed a detailed guide on all the different adjustments that can be made to them. I immediately realized there was an adjustment I could make to the beater to get more power out of each stroke. I switched it from the Finesse position to the Power position and immediately got a more powerful hit from the pedal.

The pedal also has a short board to long board conversion for the footboard, and since I wanted to further develop the heel-toe technique, I changed it to the long board setting. It was easy to convert and only required removing a few screws.

I must have spent all day adjusting the pedal, going through all the different combinations and was blown away by all the possible adjustments that can be made to the Pearl Demon Drive. Without a doubt, it is one of the most versatile pedals on the market and allows you to adjust it to your liking.

In the end, I found the Demon Drives to be the best double pedal for my playing. If you’re a metal drummer, these are worth checking out.
