Macintosh released the latest member of its iPhone family last June. Considered a huge leap from its closest sibling, the iPhone 3GS, the latest iPhone 4 has once again raised the bar in the smartphone industry. Because of this, the price of the 3GS dropped to $49 a piece. The biggest (and best) upgrade the iPhone has gotten is the Retina display. In a nutshell, it just means that the screen has twice as many on-screen pixels as its predecessors. The results are fantastic. Details are much finer on the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 has a design similar to the rest of the models, although it has its own cosmetic changes. It has a back plate that is made up of glass and has a front facing VGA camera for video calling via FaceTime. The iPhone 4 has a rather dicey antenna design that wraps around the device. This has caused reception problems when you touch a specific part of the phone. Apple came up with a temporary solution via a protector that prevents you from touching “that” spot.
The iPhone 3GS is a basic phone, but is currently not available in a CDMA version for Verizon and some other CDMA carriers. With Verizon’s CDMA iPhone bundle, you can share the 3G network among multiple devices. The only problem with CDMA technology is that it cannot process data when a person is talking on the phone. However, there are rumors that Verizon is finding ways to fix this problem.
For both the iPhone 3GS and 3G, iOS 4.3 is available. Its main advantage is the device’s ability to multitask, although the old 3G lacks hardware support for the new features.
Another great thing about the iPhone 4 is that it has the exact same 1GHz A4 CPU that’s in your iPad. With this baby inside the iPhone 4, it’s safe to say that it is, in fact, the fastest phone on the market right now. It’s actually 50% faster than the old 3GS.
