Close the Sale – The Art of Negotiation

There are more closing techniques than salespeople in the world. Closing the sale has become such an important part of sales presentations that you often won’t get the sales job unless you have good closing skills. These are some of the most popular closing techniques used today with varying success. The key to any sale is making sure the product or service is right for the customer and solves their particular problems. Be sure to communicate how it’s done and make sure the customer is aware of the value of doing it now. Do this and you will make more sales. Also, keep in mind that customers are wary of “closing techniques” that are designed to manipulate them into making a purchase decision. So be tactful and careful with the following examples.

The main closing techniques used today in sales and marketing:

1. The presumptive close: This technique is simple, just continue after the introduction and assume the customer wants to buy. This is a powerful technique because you just pump with confidence. It’s hard to say no to someone who is so confident in their product. Just ask them how they want to pay for it! (Or where they want it delivered, or how many they want to buy, etc.)

2. The Calculator Closing: Use a calculator to discount or prove the value of the deal. Remember, customers will buy emotionally and justify logically. So get them excited during the presentation and show them how much they will save or how much value they will receive by calculating the numbers.

3. The Alternative Closure: This is simply a variation of the supposed closure. The use of alternatives (cash or credit, red or blue, your place or your work address) can tempt a customer to assume that they have already made a purchase decision. All they need to do now is decide on the details. Very powerful, but pretty obvious if you don’t use touch.

4. Add a bonus – Use something extra to make the deal that much sweeter. If the customer just can’t decide on the product, simply say that if they decide now, they’ll qualify for the extra bonus offer you’re currently giving away. Use something like free delivery, or 2 for 1.

Try some of these techniques for yourself. You will find that they work well and you will earn more money quickly.
