Get your voice out of your throat and let your chest do the talking.

Over the years, I’ve been amazed at how many people are completely unaware that they have a richer, warmer, more resonant, and even sexier inner voice. Most people believe that the voice they use out of habit is something they cannot change. Could not be farther from the truth.

Unless you are already driving your voice from your chest cavity, you have a better voice inside. There are some changes in the ‘before’ and ‘after’ video clips of my clients that are so dramatic you’d think they were two different people talking. However, the fact that it is on video is proof that they are, in fact, the same thing.

So how do you get rid of your usual voice and discover your ‘real’ voice?

1. Learn to breathe diaphragmatic so you can use your chest to speak, thus eliminating wear and tear on your vocal cords. If you experience any kind of vocal abuse, it won’t go away on its own until you change the location of your voice. Constant abuse will only get worse over time. Power your voice from your chest and you’ll be amazed at the difference in immediate removal of the pain you often feel after speaking at a high volume or just talking for a long time.

2. Discover the optimal tone of your voice when speaking. Individual to you, your optimal pitch will likely be lower than your usual pitch, making your voice sound more mature, not too old, not too young, ageless. Also, you will find that your voice continually improves with age.

Then take the 2 techniques above and make them a habit so you don’t have to think about it anymore. You will sound better; you will probably look better; and you definitely feel better about yourself.

You cannot imagine the amazing changes that will occur in your life, both professionally and personally, just by letting your chest speak for you. It’s a wonderful feeling, the best way to control nervousness in any form of public speaking, and you’ll finally enjoy hearing yourself on your voicemail!
