Royal Portrush is located on a wonderful stretch of natural golf course in Northern Ireland and is a must play course if you are planning a golf holiday in Ireland. As Ryder Cup star Darren Clarke recently said, “Royal Portrush is now qualified to be in the top 12 golf courses in the world and should indeed be number one.” Royal Portrush is famous not only for its magnificent links but also for the fact that it is the only course in Ireland to have hosted The Open in 1951. Max Faulkner was the winner that week with just two rounds under 70 recorded by the entire course. .
The course had recently been recreated by Harry Colt in 1932 on the site of the previous 18-hole course, which had been designed in 1888 by Old Tom Morris. Royal Portrush has it all, a spectacular setting and superb design utilizing every twist, knoll and hollow of this magnificent land of links. As one of the best courses in Ireland, it is always in excellent condition.
Royal Portrush Golf Club is also home to the lesser known Valley Course but, for the seasoned golfer and lover of the game, the Dunluce Championship Links is the place the heart still yearns for.
