Is the Galaxy Pad the new iPad?

Just when we thought laptops and notebooks had made us outgrow our desktops, here comes tablets. With the recent success of Apple’s iPad, tech and computer manufacturers have also given in to this craze by developing their own. One of them would be the electronics company Samsung, which recently released one of its newest touchscreen devices called the Samsung Galaxy Pad.

Although they were not the revolutionaries in the world of tablet technology, Samsung has definitely used this to their competitive advantage. Samsung executives and developers were very keen to take note of the rants and complaints from Apple iPad users. The iPad claimed to be the best platform for browsing the web; the Galaxy Pad took this a step further by supporting Adobe Flash Player. Do Apple customers complain that the iPad doesn’t have a camera? Then the Galaxy Pad should be your best choice! It includes not just one, but two cameras: a 5-megapixel front and a 3.2-megapixel rear with an image resolution of 1024×600 pixels. Do you think the iPad is not too portable and heavy to carry around? The GalaxyPad is your answer. Wrapped in solid plastic, it weighs less than a pound and has smaller dimensions than the first tablet Apple released. It’s no bigger than a standard paperback, making it ideal for reading your favorite e-books on the go. The Galaxy Pad boasts of having access to more than 2500 magazines, 2 million books and more than a thousand newspapers.

What really sets the Samsung Galaxy Pad apart from its rival would be the development of a unique type of technology called augmented reality, or AR. Armed with map apps, all a user needs to do is hold the tablet and it will point out interesting bits about the location through graphics and web effects. Whether you’re looking for a restaurant, a particular hotel, or exploring a new city, the Galaxy Pad can act as your virtual tour guide. Running on Google Android and Microsoft ActiveSync, this could be an ideal device for students and young professionals everywhere.

Mobile wireless carriers have also become fashionable. Major US mobile carriers such as Sprint Nextel, AT&T, Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile USA have also agreed to include the Galaxy Pad in their service offerings. With its ability to run on these major mobile networks, despite not having the classic dial pad and relying on touch screen technology, consumers can still enjoy communicating with family and friends through third party software. Carriers are also more likely to launch it at a much more affordable price, especially for customers bound by their service contracts.

It’s not yet clear whether the Galaxy Pad will outsell Apple’s iPad phenomenon, but Samsung executives are optimistic. They claim that this will be a new “paradigm shift”, but we have yet to see the results. Samsung has been recognized around the world for developing some of the best hardware designs on the market, and consumers are excited to see more innovation from both tablet makers.
