Make your work more spiritually rewarding!

Traditionally, humans haven’t worked exclusively for a paycheck; there is a sense of purpose in your career, providing food for the soul.

With the seemingly endless movement of workers in and out of employment, one of the biggest obstacles professionals face today is a growing sense of estrangement. Workplaces are becoming more automated by computer programs or robots, and mass layoffs are increasingly dehumanizing organizations.

Everyone is affected by this trend, both inside and outside the office. Traditionally, humans haven’t worked exclusively for a paycheck; there is a sense of purpose in your career, providing food for the soul. Encouraging relationships are formed, and there is a sense of meaning through their occupations.

But all that is changing! What is happening is a measure of soullessness, transforming workers into mindless robots, replaceable like parts of a mighty machine.

There are ways to reverse this worrying trend and bring joy back into your life through meaningful work.

Employment and Spirituality

Human beings have always lived with a purpose. Having goals is the main way to influence someone’s life, through personal growth. We are also highly spiritual beings, and most of us believe that there is something greater than ourselves; we seek an Ultimate Truth.

Spirituality should not be confused with religion; we are not necessarily looking for a higher being, just a deeper meaning for our lives. It’s a common search: the search for a reason why.

Religion is a vehicle for spirituality, not spirituality itself. In fact, it can sometimes get in the way of achieving enlightenment. The rules and restrictions of most world religions can be barriers to a true understanding of nature, where the pressure to conform plays to the lowest common denominator.

What we need for proper spirituality is listening to our own hearts and minds. Please examine this self-reflection carefully, because we all have a responsibility to connect with the universal. It is the foundation of spirituality.

Attractive work can be a spiritual experience. That is why we refer to it as a “call”. It lifts us up from the ordinary and mundane, gives us encouragement and fills our souls with courage. Nurturing our soul is an inherent need; It is the meaning of life! Unfortunately, in today’s society this is ruled out when you work exclusively for a salary.

Finding a course that is relevant can be difficult, especially in this economic climate. Pure economics is now prioritized, and is increasingly becoming the only reason to work.

How many people do you know who answer: “I only work for pay.” I’m sure it’s significantly more than in the past.

Yes it’s true!

We are becoming an increasingly mercenary workforce. In this transformation from enthusiastic service to economic mercenary, we have given up an essential part of ourselves. It leaves us empty inside, and manifests itself through frequent physical complaints. Insomnia, anxiety, physical and emotional traumas are on the rise in society. Some people who are already predisposed to health problems for a variety of reasons, such as African-Americans, are at particular risk for work-related illnesses.

The amount of money doesn’t make it any better either! It can even make it worse.

Remedy…

How can we work on something that is free of harmful energy and nurtures our spirit? The answer could be extremely easy. Deep down, we know what to do, but somehow we wait. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

  • Look back at a time when you were busy at work. Even if it was just a flash, try to remember when there was joy in your work history. Is there a common theme or structure? It may be a clue.
  • Identify what gives you a sense of pride in your current job. See how those tasks can be rearranged so you can do them more often. Find your calling… so to speak.
  • Schedule an appointment with your immediate supervisor to see if a reassignment can be made. Prepare a business plan and describe any changes that can be made. Be sure to shape your choice so that it benefits your organization; you have to try it as a win-win environment for them. Explain it clearly!
  • Ensure any current project or workload is completed quickly and successfully. However, if you present your case well enough, you may have some freedom. Your employer can quickly set it up. Remember, you are changing gears!
  • Once you sell to your employer on your redefined job description, look for more jobs to be assigned to you in accordance with the changes.

If you’re not successful in convincing your boss, look into other opportunities at your company, such as a transfer to a different department. If that’s not possible, start looking outside of your company.

Do not blame your work for the lack of spiritual fulfillment; it is not your employer’s position to give you wisdom! This is a sign of victimization and is totally counterproductive.

Take control of your own spirituality and review your destiny. If changes need to be made to make your job more rewarding, don’t wait, do it NOW!
