Provocative branding of the right brain for the everyday scribe

Comfort zone: what energy is in the unknown, just out of reach

Are you ready to stop retiring, recharge, and regret your life forever? How would your perspective change if you came together for the rewards of your future instead of remembering the mistakes and missed opportunities of your past? What if you could propel yourself through the fear that has been holding you back from the writer you want to be?

Here are some ideas that will take you outside of your comfort zone and beyond, where life is richer, more daring, challenging, and fulfilling every day.

Don’t give in to the feeling of fear. Living outside your comfort zone fuels the fluidity of your future and wipes out the paralyzing effect of regret.

Fear it is a temporary affliction that can be cured whenever you live on the edge and beyond your comfort zone.

To regret it is a long-term condition that is contagious and spreads throughout your business, personal and mental existence.

So how do you break the vicious cycle of fear and regret? One of the quickest ways is to use a maneuver that I call quick thinking, which will help you learn to love living outside of your comfort zone.

The next way is to transfer your burning desire tasks, those that could have the greatest impact on your writing career, from the section of the brain that you cannot make impossible to the widest space of all possible.

Maneuver 1- Leave your safe life behind and focus on the infinite space of possibilities

1 – Take a pencil and paper and draw a picture of a brain. It doesn’t have to be perfect. This is not an art class. Just an outline sketch will do, but large enough to draw and write within. Press pause if necessary. I’ll be right here waiting for you.

2 – Next, draw a circle that covers about a third of the inside of your brain.

The circle represents your comfort zone or where you feel safe. This is where all the things that you think are impossible or too difficult come together and accumulate particles of procrastination. This circle can be larger or smaller depending on how far you have advanced in the comfort zone war.

Open space is possibility. It is where the vibrant energy called the unknown beats. That out-of-reach space where your electrifying life begins.

3 – Make a circled list of three to five items that once conquered would give you chilling and exciting writing success. Choose the one that scares you the most.

It might be as simple as writing words on paper to form the enticing first paragraph. Perhaps writing your first blog post will stumble you into the proverbial writer’s block zone. Want to travel to another country for a writers conference but haven’t flown anywhere yet? Or, you’ve heard that incorporating video into your marketing mix would pay you incredible rewards, but the thought of being in front of the camera makes you shiver on the sidelines. Writing is the practice of asserting yourself. It gives you an excuse to lose control and be what you want to be. Bigger challenges mean bigger rewards, so don’t hold back!

Unless your circle of conquering the comfort zone includes skydiving, mountain climbing, or tracking wild animals in Africa, bodily injury or death is not a problem for you to survive the worst-case scenario imagined, which usually doesn’t happen. The more you have to reach and stretch to achieve an effort, the more rewarding it will feel.

Now, I’m going to ask you to leave your safe life behind …

4 – Imagine moving that task out of the safety of the circle and into the infinite space of possibility. What color does it turn? It turns on? Flash? Fast forward past terror to triumph. The minute later, the hour later, the next day after you’ve addressed that fear that has been holding you back. Enjoy the afterglow, the fullness. How does it feel to have accomplished something that you never thought you could do? Is it so delicious that you want to experience it over and over again?

You have to get your mind on board before your physical self can jump in and cooperate. My last comfort zone challenge was being in front of the camera for over an hour doing my own live TV show, plus all the videos to promote it. If I had tried to put my body in front of the camera without mentally preparing myself, my brain would have said what you think you are doing. We are not facing the cameras. We work on the other side of the viewer. Are you crazy? This is out of our comfort zone. We have never done this before. What makes you think we can do it now? How successful do you think it would have been if it hadn’t moved ‘star on camera’ out of the small impossible circle of safety and into the gigantic void of space called possible that exists in all your brains?

5 – Once you have your list, you have chosen the first hurdle to overcome and have created the mental movie to play continuously throughout the process, you must do the physical task of planning, preparing, assembling a team … company requires. Your visualization keeps you moving and sends the correct vibrations out into the universe so that all players operate by the same rulebook. Involving others gives this a reality and responsibility, so you cannot back down.

You pay attention to that circle. So when he says that you can’t make money writing, that you’re not good at something, you’re going to fail, you’re a fool for picking up a pen, you listen to him and you get stuck there. There is inspiration to be found in all directions. From Google’s all-knowing directory of experts, to your friends on the street and many consultants in between. But ultimately, you, under the direction of your own self-motivation, are the only one who can stop what is stopping you. Do not stay in the circumference of the comfort zone. Take a giant leap and swim dedicated laps in the space where fantasy and opportunity flourish. Dare to wish, dream and walk away from your safe life.
