You can set up your AOL email account in your Microsoft Outlook 2010 to send and receive emails. Instructions:
Open Outlook from your desktop shortcut or from the Start button > All Programs. Click the File tab and select Information. You’ll see your existing account information under Information. To set up a new AOL email account, click Add Account. This will take you to the Add New Account window. In the Name field, enter your name.
Enter a valid AOL email address in the Email Address box and a password in the Password field. Click the button next to Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click the Next button. Click the Internet E-mail button and click Next. When you are in Internet Email Settings, enter your name and email address under User Information.
Under Server Information, click to select IMAP from the dropdown arrow next to Account Type and fill in the incoming and outgoing server information. Type ‘imap.aol.com’ (without quotes) in the Incoming mail server box while ‘smtp.aol.com’ in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) box. Under Login Information, enter your name and email address in the appropriate boxes.
Check the Remember password box. Click the More Settings button. Highlight the Outgoing Server tab and check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Click the Advanced tab and enter ‘587’ in the Outgoing server (SMTP) box. Click the OK button. You will return to the Add New Account window. If you want to test your settings before leaving the window, click the Test Account Settings button.
Microsoft Outlook will test your AOL account settings and respond accordingly. If the test is successful, you will see a congratulations message. Click the OK button and then Next and then Finish to save your changes and exit the Add New Account window. If the test returns an error message, click the OK button and then check your settings again.
If you find spelling or configuration errors, please correct them. It is mandatory to spell your email address, password and incoming and outgoing server information etc. correctly. Check the port number also for the SMTP server. In the event that you have lost or forgotten your password, please contact AOL and request it.

If you are running Microsoft Outlook setup for the first time, the automatic wizard will appear and ask you to set up your email account. AOL Mail also supports a POP3 account.
