Say goodbye to the family pool

If you own an in-ground pool, the day will come (if you haven’t already) when you’ll realize you no longer use it enough to justify the cost of owning it. Knowing that fact is one thing, doing something about it is another.

Pools are often a centerpiece for entertaining with family and friends. They become a destination place where fond memories are created. This makes it difficult to remove. It is change, and change is always unsettling. It can feel like shooting a family portrait. is letting go. Just because a pool is in bad shape doesn’t make getting rid of it any easier. I have worked with many homeowners who had pools that were in total disrepair, and even though they had no intention of remodeling them, they found it difficult to make the decision to remove them. It always confirms to me that people’s reasons for maintaining their pool were never based on what they were seeing, but what they were feeling.

The problem with a pool is that you can’t just put it in a closet and forget about it. You can’t even put it in the garage with all the other stuff you don’t use. Your unwanted pool is in your face every day and it has a huge appetite for your time and money as well as your peace of mind. A pool owner told me that he hadn’t swum in his pool for seventeen years. During that time, he continued to maintain and check himself. It is very easy to fall into the trap of thinking that “next year” things will be different. If your pool wasn’t used this season, don’t think it will be next season.

In the past, finding a contractor to remove an inground pool was difficult, if not impossible. People who tried it found it incredibly frustrating. The good news is that swimming pool demolition contractors are much easier to find than ever before, especially in areas of the county where there are a large number of swimming pools. You will also be surprised how cheap it can be to dismantle a pool. In most areas of the country, you can tear down a pool and refill it with dirt for less than $8,000. That’s less than the price of a cheap remodel.

Don’t stay in backyard limbo any longer. Eliminating your unwanted pool will take a huge burden off your shoulders. I am always talking to people who have made the decision to remove their pool and without exception they tell me that they are glad they did. Their only regret is the fact that they didn’t do it years ago.
