Unique barbecue recipes that will surprise your guests

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want to enjoy the outdoors, backyard barbecues are always a good idea. Planning the menu is one of the most difficult parts. While it’s easy to fall back on the usual grill dishes, add a little more fun by serving your guests unique barbecue recipes they might not normally enjoy.

Grilled Chicken with Hot Raspberry

What do you need:

  • 1 kilo boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 bottle of tomato sauce
  • 1 1/4 cups raspberry jam
  • 1 cup pickle juice
  • 1 cup of honey
  • 1/3 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot mustard
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion flakes
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 1 pinch of hot sauce
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste

In a large saucepan, combine tomato sauce, raspberry preserves, pickle juice, honey, red wine vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, onion flakes, garlic powder, and black pepper ground. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Lower the heat, add the hot sauce and simmer for 1 hour. When ready, remove from heat and reserve. Season the chicken with salt and black pepper. Cook on a preheated grill over medium-high heat for 3 to 5 minutes per side or until cooked through. Transfer to a serving plate and pour the spicy raspberry sauce over the chicken before serving.

Roast turkey on chive toast

What do you need:

  • 4 English muffins, split in half
  • 3 cups of cooked and minced turkey meat
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions, divided
  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Combine hoisin sauce, barbecue sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and ginger root in a large saucepan. Add turkey, half of the green onions, salt and pepper. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside. Combine remaining onion and remaining olive oil in a small bowl. Brush the cut sides of each muffin with the mixture and place on a baking sheet. Cook on a preheated grill until lightly toasted, about 2 minutes. Top with turkey mixture and serve immediately.

Grilled pears with blue cheese

What do you need:

  • 4 pears, cut in half lengthwise and cored
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese crumbled
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

In a small bowl, combine cheese and butter and pour mixture into cavity of each pear half. In a separate bowl, whisk together the hot sauce and olive oil and brush each pear half with the mixture. Cook pears on preheated grill over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes, or until tender.
