Gothenburg, Sweden

The second largest city in Sweden, Gothenburg is the fifth largest city in the Nordic countries.

There is plenty to do for the whole family, including fantastic fishing and flea markets for you to explore at your leisure. The town’s fishing port is a hive of activity for locals and tourists alike. Visit the Feskekorka fish market, where you can buy all kinds of delicacies, caught on the day. The building was an experiment by an architect, inspired by Gothic churches and Norwegian pentagrams. He wanted to have a hall without pillars, and he achieved it in the building that today houses the marvelous market. If you like the coastal area, you can take a boat to Branno, a beautiful island on the mainland, where the ballad composer Lasse Dahlqvist lived. You can visit the ballad festival in the summer and see traditional dances, as well as small trinket markets.

For an interesting walk through the city, try the dramatized city walks, perfect if you are trying to educate your children a little while traveling, but in a very fun way.

If you like food, there are some great little Swedish restaurants you can visit to try the local cuisine.

Gothenburg also has a wheel, much like the London Eye, which gives you a panoramic view of the city. When you visit, it’s worth a visit to see the sprawling city below.
