How to choose the perfect titanium tennis racket

To decide if you need a titanium tennis racket, you must first understand what it is.

Titanium is a metal often used in tennis racket frames because it offers high stiffness to weight ratio with multi-directional resistance. The advantage for the tennis player is that the high stiffness increases the amount of power with which a ball can be returned.

If a racket is likely to bend or even deform on impact, the racket will absorb the energy of the ball and reduce its speed and therefore its power.

Titanium is also very light, so not only can it generate a lot of power, but it is also easy to handle and balance.

Choosing a titanium tennis racket that is right for you will depend on a number of things. These include your build, skill, and experience. Ideally, for the beginner, you should choose a racket with enough weight to generate enough power in your shots. Be careful though, as a very light racquet weighing less than 10 ounces will see too much impact from the ball hitting the racquet traveling down your arm. Conversely, anything over 12 ounces may seem heavy to a beginner, so striking a balance between the two is important.

Go for a 10 to 11.5 ounce titanium racket and this will give both of you some good power on your shots, but it won’t take too much away from you, and most of all, it will prevent unnecessary shoulder injuries when you start.

It is difficult to generalize about which titanium tennis racket to buy. For some, a Wilson Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 can provide excellent control and a solid feel. But like 12.3 ounces they can feel a bit heavy, especially if you’re just starting out. Alternatively, a Fischer GDS Rally FT titanium tennis racket that weighs 10.6 ounces will feel significantly lighter but still provides very good control and power.
